The Screen Is Watching Back

By Varisty Raywat

Video Art · 2:29 · Sound

Distorted images and sound turn the screen into an uneasy viewing space. The title shifts the relationship between the image and its audience: as we watch, we are asked to imagine that something might be looking back.

Time

Some moments feel suspended, as though the world has become distant and there is nowhere you need to be. Time holds onto that quiet feeling between comfort and loneliness, when a brief pause seems to last longer than it should.

03 / Behind the work

Art begins with
paying attention.

I’m Varisty Raywat.

I’m a Studio Arts student working across photography, mixed media, digital art, and video. I’m drawn to images that feel familiar at first, but become a little stranger the longer you spend with them.

In my photography, shadows, reflections, and partially hidden figures create space for uncertainty. I’m interested in how much an image can suggest without showing everything, and how an ordinary place can take on a different feeling through light and framing.

My mixed media work approaches that same curiosity through fragments. I bring shapes, colors, and textures together to see what happens when separate pieces begin to form something new. Digital art gives me another way to explore those relationships, from playful illustration to more structured designs.

Video brings time and sound into my practice. Across these different forms, I want to make work that invites people to pause, look closer, and arrive at their own connections.
